I can see logic of the scientific name use.Two separate field guides, 2 different generic names.
Confusing.

Confusing.  | I have always known it as the greater waterboatman but have heard it called the backswimmer also - yes the same beastie- just one of those things!!
(nothing ever easy - they'l probably change the scientific name on day too just to make things just a bit harder)  |

I think you mean common or vernacular or English, rather than generic. Generic refers to the genus (Notonecta, in this instance).
