Dragonfly ID please
Out for a short walk this afternoon with dog and grandson when I managed to get this pic. I'm no expert on dragonflies but think they make good subjects. I'm pleased I had my camera with me. A red admiral landed on the stump seen in the pic while I was busy with the dragonfly

I'm no expert either but I would say it is a Southern Hawker - Aeshna cyanea. Nice photo Roger

Ollie and glsammy thanks for your assistance. We have a few lakes around Hetton as a result of reclamation of former colliery sites. I might see a few more dragonflies and I could need your help again.
