help! never seen anything like this in my life

i was camping at the bottom of the kinder downfall in the peak district and i saw this it was the most beautiful insect i've ever seen! and the colour was so intense, a kind of metalic electric dayglo blue if anyone knows what this is please let me know!! thanks in advance chris

From your pic in the Gallery it looks like the Oil beetle Meloe proscarabaeus.

yeah i think your right, are they usually found in the uk ? it's just that i've never senn one before

Yep, found in the UK, though numbers are apparantly going down. Once Common, now restricted to the west of Britain.

thanks for all your help fellas now i can tell my nephew what it was coz he was camping with me at the time and we were both amazed by it, the picture here doesn't do the actual colours any justice at all
