| | | Unknown Cocoon? I found the following in my shed yesterday morning. I was wondering if anybody couldtell me what it is likely to be. I think that it is a cocoon from some sort of moth. It is around 2inches (5 cm) in height.
regards

If it's empty maybe run an extention lead and bulbholder for a natural lamp?..

| | | Re: Unknown Cocoon? Its certainly a nest initial of one of the social wasps. It may be Vespula germanica or one of the Dolichovespula species - the grey coloration of the carton is typical of these 5
If there was nothing in it, it may either be an old (failed) nest from last year OR one in which the queen is out foraging for food for grubs. Keep it under observation for a while to see if there is any traffic. If it is an active early nest, it will grow rapidly once the workers emerge.
at 2 inches... it does seem rather small for an active nest for this season.... things OUGHT to be a bit more advanced that this by mid-June | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
