Yarrow CP Flies
Any ideas on these three Flies I photographed at the weekend at Yarrow CP nr Chorley Lancashire. Thanks

The first is an anthomyiid. The second is another muscid. The third is the hoverfly Xylota segnis. Sorry not to be of more assistance with your calyptrate flies - you need to be able to see and count the bristles.

Many thanks again. I was finding them quite un-co-operative when being photographed in Yarrow CP. I'm going to have to start collecting a few specimens I think.

Good. Carefully pinned specimens are the only real way of identifying most flies to species (remember that there are just under 7,000 species of Diptera in Britain).
