Unknown beetle

Hi all,
Any help with identification of this one would be gratefully received. and i'd say at least 100 must have decended on the lawn this morning. the nearest i could get from my book was omaloplia ruricola. but beetle books being what they are .........

Certainly a scarabeid of some kind so you're going in the right direction. Needs more thought and I'm suffering from heatstroke - shall look again later!

looks like a cockchafer (may/June bug) this one looks darker and a bit worn

sorry i didn't put size, probably 1cm if not less. the record we had for cockchafers to light this year was 26 though, came with 2 male stag beetles. not many moths that night though
