| | | Re: is this a Vine Weevil Just seen this one, I think it's definitely not a vine weevil. They are grey and hard and much more angular than this pic. Thinner legs. When they hatch from the grub they are completely white and don't move much straight away. If you dig out any garden pot in June you'll be very likely to see the grubs or the just fledged ones. Grubs eat roots to death. Then they come to the soil surface and you will only see the grey adult walking slowly and determinedly. If you interrupt it it will play dead, if you turn your back it will have legged it in seconds. I have kept them for a while - pre release to 'the wild' - and they are really quite ...charming? Doubt that most would agree. They eat polyanthus leaves and grapevine leaves and seem to live happily for many weeks. Have never had one die on me, except when arrived under duress. |

| | | Re: is this a Vine Weevil I don't know which weevil that is, but nothing like a Vine Weevil, perhaps there's an incorrectly ID'ed image in Gallery? |

| | | Re: is this a Vine Weevil What a superb photo. I love the way you have got a sort of 3D effect with the bark blurry in the foreground!
I have no idea what type of weevil it is though. Sorry! |

| | | Re: is this a Vine Weevil looking through Bio Images I think it could well be Polydrusus mollis or a close relative. |

| | | Re: is this a Vine Weevil Could you please give approx size of this weevil? It is such a good picture I am just wondering if it is v highly magnified and may be something more the size of a carpet beetle?
What is it walking on, was it outdoors or inside? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
