| | | caterpiller and fly ID Can anyone ID either of these. The caterpiller was one of several that I saw all on the stalks of reeds. The fly looks familiar but not sure why

yes I would say a type of sawfly larva, and the fly is a snipe fly - Rhagio scolopacea.

| | | Re: caterpiller and fly ID not sure where to ask this question, I came across some small hoverfly type insects that were in a colony on a sandy clay wall, hundreds of small holes were in the wall with the insects flying in and out of them, never seen them before, any idea waht they are, sorry have no photo? |
