| | | Unknown Fly species Can anyone help me identify this fly species please.
There were two or three of these in a sheltered area on my local reserve today. They are quite large, bigger than a Bluebottle & more inline with a Flesh-fly.
I cant remember seeing this species before.

Ta,
Steve.
I think this is from the Tachinidae family. My nearest shot would be Tachina fera. Hope this helps.

| | | Re: Unknown Fly species Thanks for your help, I had initially discounted T.fera as the images in any of my books just didn't look anything like this fly.

| | | Re: Unknown Fly species I seen a fly on my floor walking upright. He never flew the whole time. He had a little tail on the back with fly legs that he used to walk with and his back legs. It was about the size of a fruit fly. The tail had a ball on the end, I guess for balance, not sure if it was dragging on the floor or his feet were holding that part up, but the legs were moving back and forth as he walks. It so small hard to see but looked like 4 legs on the tail. My camera batter was dead so I not get to take photo. I wish I had captured in in a jar now. If I see it again I will and get new battery for camera and take photo and post.
I don't know anything about insects as as far as I know only Man walks upright and big foot if that real. He was walking like a little soldier on guard duty, very strait upright. He seems like he was having fun. He fell like 2 times but got right back up.
Dose anybody know if it is some known fly species or new one or just a mutant. I am 54 and never seen anything like that before. My girl friend was with me in the bedroom so we both seen it. I told her I must be tripping on LSD or something, look at this dear, a fly walking upright. She like OMG!!!
The fly never took off and flew, just kept walking around. He got close to the cat one time, I think maybe the thing blind also because he kept walking swards it. I hope the cat not eat him. The neighbors cat visit sometimes in our house for food. I hope I see another one or same one, this too increadable. |

| | | Re: Unknown Fly species I can only think that your fly may have contained a parasite of some description that was making it behave oddly.

I found the fly again, dead on the floor but in tack. I put the fly in a jar. If I can get some digital photos I will post them. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
