| | TC Bug Finder Dear all,
this is the first time I have used this site and so I look forward to seeing how things progress.
We have found in our back garden this afternoon (West Sussex) a small insect that we have not been able to identify. I expect being novices doesn't help?
It is approx 5mm long (head to tail)
It appears to have wings, although they are not easily visible with covers over them.
These hard glossy outer covers are black with striking yellow marks on them (symetrical) & don't quite cover the wings underneath right at the tips, parting evenly in a curved fashion exposing what appear to be dark coloured latice type wing structures.
The bug has antenea that are almost as long as the rest of it combined.
It's head is proportionaly small for the length of its body.
Can anyone help with the identification of this insect. |

| | | Re: TC Bug Finder I don't have the faintest idea, but welcome to WAB.
Someone may come along soon and help, but a photo will almost certainly be of benefit next time.

| | | Re: TC Bug Finder Sounds a bit like one of the Incurvariidae moths - there have been a couple of threads on these - the front wings are metallic and look hard but, in fact are quite soft, like any other moth ....

| | | Re: TC Bug Finder The Wasp Beetle Clytus arietis is out now and has black wings with yellow markings and long antennae. It is, however, more than 5mm long. |

| | | Re: TC Bug Finder I have spotted some small beetles, and they did match most of the description, but i did not see any antennas, and they seem to hang around window seals. However, it may be that it is the same and I missed them, so was the insect a very round beetle? |

It's a species of Sawfly, create a new thread and you may get a species.
Take care, Jason |
