| | | Holly Blue? I spent a short time watching what I think was a Holly Blue butterfly in my garden today,
it was a vivid sky blue colour and the right size for a Holly Blue but the underside of the wings had no black spots or markings whatsoever, just plain, vivid, sky blue. I didn't get a pic because by the time I'd have got my camera it'd have gone. Is this a slight variation of a Holly Blue or is it a different species?

| | | Re: Holly Blue? I'm not sure what else it could be apart from a Holly Blue, but it sounds a bit strange. From a distance Holly Blue's wings do look silvery blue and it is not until you get very close that you see the black dots. How close were you to the butterfly?

| | | Re: Holly Blue? Sorry I cant help with the ID but I had a couple around my garden today, they were far too busy flitting about for me to attempt a photo as well. The colours of mine were exceptionally bright too.
We also had a brief visit by an orange tip and speckled wood - nice to see more butterflies passing through the garden today

Guy | I was crouched down next to it so was pretty close, 18in or so. I've always loved Holly Blue's, their colour is stunning and this one caught my eye from the other end of the garden
(40ft) it was such a vivid blue!
