| | | feeling guilty im really upset. i was rushing home today with an injured bat that had been found in my workplace and i saw a wild baby rabbit in bush near roadside he was looking quite ill i couldnt get to him as i had this injured bat in a box i mamaged to get rspca to come and collect bat and i was hoping the rspca could go back to where i saw the rabbit when they came to pick up the bat but they couldnt and it was 2 hours later so doubtful it would have still been there. they told me they would have put it to sleep as it was prob mixamytosis but at least it would be out of its suffering now im worrying and feeling guilty about this rabbit i had to walk away from i hate the thought of any living creature suffering will it die and will it die quickly as i feel as i have prolonged its suffering by leaving it there cant stop crying |

| | | Re: feeling guilty If you see a rabbit with myxomatosis it's best to despatch it there and then, rather than cause extra distress and suffering faffing around catching it and transporting it to the RSPCA. It's a distasteful job, but a large stick will do it.

| | | Re: feeling guilty yes i am sure it is but i wouldnt have been able to do that. i have on three occasions had no choice but to put a wild animal out of its suffering 2 mice and one bird all half dead victims of what i think were cat attacks (not my cat he is indoor only) and those were the most distressing moments of my life i doubt very much i would have been able to do the job on a rabbit although i know it would have been kinder very sad day although thankful i managed get the bat seen too i cannot stop thinking about this rabbit |

| | | Re: feeling guilty As Jim says its really kinder if you can to despatch the poor rabbits with myxie as quick as possible,,,I have had to do it on a number of occasions,I know personally I would feel worse walking away knowing I have left an animal in distress....
However I realise that not everyone has the stomach to put an animal out of its misery........
