| | | landscapes? I might be going blind here but.... I looked around the Gallery and seen some fabulous photos of places I "crave" to be ...but alas.....I'm stuck in Brum for now. Upon seeing the photos I wondered if there is likely to be a forum purely for rural landscapes (mountains, hills, valleys, lakes etc). ...or haver I missed it ?
regards

portraits
birds
flowers
glamour
landscapes
techy stuff
I was wondering if there was a forum for landscapes on its own ? |

Yes, I know, they're quite a way from Brum but I used to do "day runs" out to these locations when I first started. At present no phots to shout about as I've been quite mercenary....I've scrapped them all but a few as I was never really happy with them. I've decided to start over with a new collection. All being well, I should be in Dorset in October having a week's break. I shall no doubt get out and about then. I shall post to the appropriate galleries!
thanx

Originally Posted by Kayleigh I would like to improve my landscape too as I am not happy with mine so if you get any tips I will be eagerly keeping a look out for.. | Looking back and thinking about some of the shots I've taken in the past I tended to get an overall feel and make an 'all-encompassing' evaluation, treating the shot 'as a whole' so to speak, even after taken general readings from ground then the sky etc. (quite often using multi-metering). I didn't really look beyond that. Consequently, after getting home and studying the shots I merely yawned at them
What I tend to do now is not merely apply filters just for the sky/ground as above. I analyse the scenes in more detail, I look to see if any specific objects grab my interest and possibly apply spot metering for it. I remember a while ago I was faced with a small harbour with buildings down the right hand side, the sun was slightly down behind them. The scene had lighter areas in the sky, the middle areas consisted of water and boats (all somewhat darker), the lower areas of water were lighter again, due to the reflections from the sky. I definately to retain detail of the boats etc, they were my immediate focus. Due to the difference in EVs of the sky, the boats areas/water, water in the lower area I applied filter to the top and bottom areas only, ( like a sandwich) thus balancing the light out overall. It worked quite well.
