''If you find a baby bird'' is the thread you need Beckie, I think it is a stickey thread..Not sure.
Rightly or wrongly, I would take it outside, contained so it doesn't fly away, and wander about with it and see if either it calls to parents, and they will reply, or if parent bird is calling to other fledgelings, and it might reply...Just what I would do, not saying you should, but it would be a much better thing for it to be reunited if poss...if that doesn't work, or is not an option, then google Wildlife rescues or sanctuaries, follow the link till you find your nearest one, maybe your local vet has this information,..ours does..
In meantime, you can feed catfood, either tinned meat type, or the crunchie things WELL soaked..Hope this helps..let us know what happens..Posie.. |

Baby has eaten some worms which it saw on the floor and seemed to quieten down a little after that, it's not in any distress and is sat in a container in the garden with the doors and lid off so it's able to get out should it want to.
Just going to leave it be for now and have shut both our cats indoors.
Thanks for the advice |

| | | Re: Hello hi beckie, it is obviously needing food, try in the meantime offering it some moist catfood, as I said if you haven't got moist tinned stuff, then well soak some dry catfood, if you crush the bikkies first before soaking they will absorb water quicker, it is important that it is fully soaked, no dry bits in it..if as you say it ate worms off the ground, then maybe it would prefer to eat it off the ground, this would also help it not to get too used to you supplying food into it's mouth, for obvious reasons......In the meantime, should it become necessary to find a wildlife rescue, if you give your nearest town, if you are comfortable with this, other Wabbers will help you find a rescue centre near you....Posie
ps forgot to mention dehydration..I think baby birds get fluids from the food their parents give them, so make sure food you offer is 'wet'....You could offer a little dish of water in case it needs it...
Although it is more likely to call when 'hungry', it cannot be left too long because of dehydration...bit of a 'catch 22' situation.

The poor thing is absolutely covered in mites, if I have to hold onto it for another night should I bring it back indoors? Or just let it stay outside in a container? Sorry more of a ferret person than a bird person lol. |

| | | Re: Hello Are you sure it is mites...I'm not an expert on bird mites,, what colour and size are they..If you get any joy with a rescue place, they will get rid of all parasites, Best thing is to ring round them first and push for some help, if the first one can't take him, they will perhaps advise you about the mites...Don't give up, there must be someone around there who will help...Usually takes a time to find them though..RSPB might have some contact numbers in your area, though they don't take birds in as far as I know.
I don't know if bird 'mites' will live on cats, but if so you'd better keep an eye on your cat, or do you frontline him/her..?...Posie.. |
