| | | Just joined today Hello everyone, stumbled across WAB today. I am from Lincoln and spent a very pleasant hour 1/2 this morning at our local Nature Reserve, Greetwell Hollow. Birds noted were Black Cap, Garden Warbler, flocks of Goldfinches on the thistle heads. Butterflies/Moths spotted were: Small heath, 6 spot Burnett Moth, Cinnabar Moth, GateKeeper, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Small Blue and Holly Blue. I also found a small section where Stemless Thistle were growing and I hadn't noted these before.
I shall be heading off to the new reserve at Monks Wood (outside Dunholme) shortly. |

| | | Re: Just joined today Thanks Deb. Yes it was and it was such a glorious morning too first thing.
Greetwell Hollow is a little bit of a jewel on the outskirts of Lincoln. It is managed by the Lincs Wildlife Trust. There is also an old quarry nest to it, which although not part of the reserve, is open access. The quarrying only stopped a few years ago, but nature is making the most of it and it is getting populated by large numbers of plants and scrub bushes. So in a few years time it will no doubt be supporting a whole host of additional wildlife. Heres hoping |
