| | | Hi Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site. I love wildlife and would spend all my time either cultivating it or sitting behind my camera trying to capture the wonder and beauty of it if other things didn't occasionally call for my attention. I tend to roam Sussex most of all and we are quite lucky to have lots to see down here. Mind you, Norfolk is just wonderful too and there is so much I would love to see in other parts of the country.
I'm chasing kingfishers atm, difficult but not impossible and *so* rewarding when you get a decent view. Btw, I saw my first Hedgehog of 2007 on the 29th January! We put out some food for it and I hope its ok.
Happy wildlife watching and have a great year.

Colsworld, it is rather early for Hedgehogs but I've read that they will wake up and go walkabout in mild weather during the winter. It's certainly been mild enough this winter. I figure they must be desperate for food though when they do wake up in these conditions. My partner and I buy a food mix designed especially for Hedgehogs and I had some in stock so I put a little pile of that out for it. It hadn't been touched the first night but it has all gone today. Mind you, that could be the local foxes (I feed them regularly too) getting their own back - last summer our Hedgehogs kept pinching food I'd put out for the foxes. They seem to have similar tastes but as long as one or other of them gets it (as opposed to the local cats) I'm happy.
I live in the Adur Valley, near Steyning and really love this region. What amazes me is that I walked this area for about 5 yrs before I finally began to actually see the great variety of wildlife here. I'm probably out and about more now than I used to be before I started taking my camera out of my own garden but I think its more than that...it's about the way you look around you and how much noise you make doing it.
For further info... I designed my garden for wildlife and I have an allotment and love gardening as well as photography |

I am from Worthing and my family all still live in the area, as for me I am in Stroud and interestingly we are also trying to add wildlife sections to our garden, as well as having a shared allotment with our neighbours at the back of our gardens.
We only actively feed the birds but have had foxes, Badgers and deer in the garden, and we have only lived here under 2 years!! |
