i have ended up here after a recent increase in my wildlife photos ratehrthan the portraits i have been shooting for ages;-)
i stumbled on here as i'm stuck between buyign a canon 400mm prime and a 100-400mm ...i have been throught he forum and there seems to be positives for both lenses so it may come down to a coin toss ;-0

| | | Re: Hi All Hi Gavin, welcome to the forum. I have the 100-400. This is the second, the first one was total pants! Which I understand can happen with this lens. The first one went back to Canon twice, firstly not sharp, secondly IS broken with 6 months, however, my replacement has been perfect! Most of the new stuff on my website is taken with it. However, when I have the cash I will be getting a 400 or 500 prime (probably 400, now the 500 has gone up to silly money!)
The 100-400 is good but will never out sharp a prime! (just my opinion anyway  )
