Please allow me to introduce myself

Hello WAB family,
I've been a member for a month now so I thought it was time to say hello. I should have
said hello sooner but not only am I new to photography I'm also new to computers.
My great passion is walking, especially long distance trails. This has led to a love of British
wildlife and photography. The only problem I have now is I,m getting addicted to my camera
and will probably need a pack horse to carry my equipment on my hikes. The only reason I
had to buy a computer was to help me with my photos so to find the WAB family was a
massive bonus. I am humbled by your knowledge.

Re: Please allow me to introduce myself

hi Ian, glad you decided to introduce yourself. Now you've got involved with WAB you won't have time for your long hikes and taking photos, you'll be behind your computer worried you are missing out on something here! It's awfully addictive- you've been warned

Re: Please allow me to introduce myself

Do you sing Rolling Stones songs as you walk along?
There is a problem that 'long-distance' and 'wildlife and photography' don't go together! I no longer contemplate walks over five miles because otherwise I don't have time to look at the plants/animals and/or take photos!
Welcome.

Hi Dan
The west highland way was my first trail. April is a good time to walk it ( pre-midge season)
It's a path I return to time and again. The last time taking two weeks due to excursions
and one good night in the Drovers. And remember, the west highland way isn't complete
without a gentle stroll up Ben Nevis at the end.

What is this life if, full of care.....We have no time to stand and stare?

Hi Graham
Thanks for the welcome.
Just two questions. How long is your street and how long does it take to walk?

See? im so very tempted to stick around and climb ben nevis....it was tough enough doing a three week trek to everest then not being able to climb to the top of her.

but Ben nevis is do able? but annoyingly i looked into it today and at the higher altitude everyone is wearing crampons and proper climbing gear...sadly i just spent 135 pound on some leather meindl walking boots but they are not crampon compatable

Welcome Ian, what others say about WAB being addictive is true. You should shedule time to learn your computer.. but not so much that it interferes with WAB time

Re: Please allow me to introduce myself

Hi Ian and a very warm welcome to WAB.

I've done many long distance walks in the UK but now settled down to an easier past time of photographing fungi But I still enjoy the odd Lyke Wake and Three Peaks. My favourite ldw is still the coast to coast ... Amazing, in so many ways ... and the pubs are good too Enjoy!

Hi John,
I find identifying fungi more testing than ldw's I agree with you about
the coast to coast apart from Kidsty Pike in bad weather it takes some beating.

Hello nightshade,
Through the winter months I live and work in Warwickshire. Come springtime, if I've
saved enough pennies, I make like a snail and put my home on my back until
finances dictate its time to hibernate again.
I've had many memorable times in your lovely county, especially north exmoor
on the south west coast path.
Thanks for the welcome.

Ian

That sounds an interesting way of life, Ian. Do you just work winters and then take off?

Hello badgerwatcher,
Yes. For the last seven years I have worked winter and walked spring, summer
and autunm. This year, with new expensive hobbies ( camara and computer )
I think I will have to settle for long weekends and the odd extended vacation.
I'm sure I'll get no complaints from my feet.
