| | Saved a field mouse from jaws of cat.. twice Hi everyone. I'm new to this. I saved a field mouse from my Mums cat Yesterday. I had to prise open her cats jaws to get it out. Apart from half its tail being bitten off. It was healthy. So I carried it to the bottom of the garden (It was very tame) and let it go. Keeping the cat in for a good hour before letting him out again. Thinking I'd done my good dead. I went home. Today when I go round there, the cat had the same mouse (with half a tail) I have saved it again. This time I decided to look after the mouse as it was bleeding from a front paw. The mouse has been eating bird seed and drinking water. It seems happy What is the best way to care for it? How long should I look after it before I let it go? |

Why did you not keep the cat in all night to give the mouse a chance..
Nothing you can do the mouse will die unless you Get it antibiotics asap.. |

| | | Re: Saved a field mouse from jaws of cat.. twice Thank You. I will have to get some antiboics for for the poor little thing. Can I buy some from a pet shop or will I have to get them from a vet? Unfortunally the cat is my Mums. She let it out after an hour. If it was mine it would have been in all night and have a collar with a bell on. When my cat was alive she never caught anything. She like staying in |

| | | Re: Saved a field mouse from jaws of cat.. twice You need to get it to a vet for antibiotics. Pet shops dont sell them. Unfortunately, it's probably too late already. The mouse appears tame due to shock. If it survives, please let it go again. Don't try to treat it like a pet mouse.
Let us know how you get on.
Jan

Jan | I will get some antibiotics for it. It seems to be doing very well. It is eating and drinking, and it is becoming more active everyday. I wouldn't want to keep it as a pet. I was always going let it go. I just wanted to give the little thing a chance. Should I return where I found it or can I let it go somewhere eles? There is a Field where I live. Away for houses and hopefully cats! |

I think it was unlucky the first time. The second time I think it could have been in shock. It didn't really move much when I rescued it the second time but it is moving fasted and faster each day. Hopefully the little thing will live and I will let it go soon . |

| | | Re: Saved a field mouse from jaws of cat.. twice If the mouse gets better I would release it away from your garden as it is not safe. you would need to take it quite a long way or it will come straight back.
We have a wood/field mouse who lives under the shed, we don't have any cats to worry about so he is a bit tame now and comes out for sunflower seeds and toast and honey |

| | | Re: Saved a field mouse from jaws of cat.. twice The mouse was doing so well. The vet decided no antibotics were needed when she checked it out. I have now let it go in a field. Well away from houses. Hopefully the little thing will continue to do well and live out its natural life Thanks for the advise. |
