| | | Hello from Texas Hi everyone,
I'm an expat Brit and I've been living in the USA for 20 years. I've been enjoying browsing the galleries of beautiful British landscapes and wildlife - makes me a little homesick! I love to go hiking in the Lake District when I do get back for a visit - we don't have anything quite like the system of public footpaths and ancient rights of way here in Texas, so taking a walk in the countryside can only be done in the State Parks and so on!
Cheers

Helen | Hello Helen and a very warm welcome to WAB. The Lake District is my favourite area too. I can imagine your visit takes a little longer
Never mind, I'm sure you will enjoy being here. There's lots to remind you of the Wildlife of Britain ... and you can join in the fun too

| | | Re: Hello from Texas Thank you so much, everyone for the really warm welcome - specially as we're having awful weather here in Texas. It hasn't got above 38 degrees F. (3C) here today and everywhere is suffering from ice storms and even snow in Dallas/Fort Worth, which is over 300 miles away to the north of me. I live just outside Houston and our normal winter temperatures in January are 60-70F (15-21C)!
Hi Nightshade - Texas is a huge state, but should I run into Jim, I'll say Hi!
Hi goosey - I used to live in Holland - we were based in The Hague for 4 years.
Hi Paul - thanks for mentioning the Worldwide Wildlife site - I didn't know about it. We certainly have a lot of wildlife here. Living here got me really interested in birding.

What part of Britain did you come from ? Hawkwind.... | Thanks for the welcome, Carol and Hawkwind. I was born in Penrith, Cumbria, so spent the first 18 years of my life there. Then I went to Uni in London and Keele (Staffs) and after that lived in southwest London, until my husband started moving us around the world with his job in an American oil company. We've been in Texas for 14 years!
Over the last few years I've built a website to show some of my birding experiences and adventures. I love hummingbirds and have been very lucky to have them visit my garden, along with Purple Martins which nest every Spring in a martin house we put up for them. I've also documented some birding trips we've been on. Here's the website address: Helen's Birding Pages
