| | | Hello from a sculptor I have become a member of Wild About Britain today, mainly because of the sculpting project I am currently working on. Called '365', its based on nature and involves me sculpting a small piece of work each day, all of which are place on one larger shape. The large sculpt is split into 365 segments where each daily sculpt will be placed.
So the small sculpts are based on what I see on walks etc in Britain. It all appears on my blog each day with some information, perhaps about the subject or how I came to make it. I have a friend who has helped identify many of the subjects from photos I have sent, but she also drew my attention to this site and all the members photos. So it is those photos that have helped me through the project so far in identifying things I have sculpted or plan to sculpt.
I basically thought perhaps it would be better to join and ask members for there help despite a reticence after seeing the quality of members photography!
I am also unsure if it is wrong to ask about things simply growing or living in this country if they are not indigenous.
Anyway, as a definite non expert, my latest question mark is over the picture
attached. Many Thanks. |

| | | Re: Hello from a sculptor Hi Jonathan,
Welcome
If it's a tree question (which this one is) post in the "trees" forum, a wildflower in the "wildflowers" forum, etc. The subject of a thread posted in forums like these would be an organism encountered in the wild in the UK. So not a planted species from a formal garden. There is a large grey area, of course. Even for people with more knowledge of these subjects.
So post that picture in "Trees" ( Wildflowers, Plants & Tree Forums - Trees at wildaboutbritain.co.uk) with a description about where and when you saw it, height and anything that you think might be important for an identification and see how you get on.
The Mods are here to help if you are unsure. Not sure who they all are, but I have the ones I know of added as my contacts. Quote: |

Your tree is a Cupressus, probably Cupressus arizonica, the Arizona Cypress.
