| | hello hello i'm new here, nice to meet you all.
could i ask some advice please? i normally feed birds in my garden by either throwing bread on the lawn or hanging fat balls from nails on my fence which go down very well. but i've recently bought a new bird feeder... like a long pole with hooks to hang things full of nuts, seeds, bread etc with a bird bath attached also. in the last week it's been up they haven't been near it! any ideas why? nothing's changed in the garden , no threat of cats or anything.... have i wasted my money on this feeder?? :-( |

The buzz word on here is patience.
Keep feeding as you have been on the ground and fence and sooner or later they will discover your new feeding station.
Chris.

You certainly haven't wasted your money. Just give your birds time to get used to the new feeder being there. They will have their eyes on it, don't you worry.
Once they are familiar with it's presence, you'll be topping up your feeders on a regular basis!
Tracey

| | | Re: hello Hello vegandaffodil and welcome to WAB. You definitely haven't wasted your time buying this feeder, I have got the same sort and the birds did take a while to get used to it, now they nearly rip the feeders out of my hand before I can manage to get them on the hangers
Enjoy the site, friendly people on here

If you have birds visiting your garden, they will use the feeders eventually, assuming that they like the food on offer. Hang some suet balls on the feeding station to get them feeding from it, and they should start to enjoy the other food soon enough. The feeding station is best situated quite close to a hedge or tree to give them that added sense of security.
Good luck,
Deb

| | | Re: hello Welcome to WAB. I have a feeding pole like yours and it took a bit of time for the birds to come to it. I moved it a couple of times and found the right place eventually, with some cover nearby. They will come!

| | | Re: hello Hi Vegan and a huge welcome to WAB. As others have said....."they will come" and when they do, it will have been well worth the wait Just one tip though Vegan. It's very important to remove the netting from your suet balls (if you haven't already) as birds can and do, get there legs trapped in the netting. You can buy suet ball feeders from places like Wilkinson or your local garden center, fairly cheapy. Enjoy the forum - Wizzo
