| | | Hello! Hello, I've been lurking for a while. I'm recently intrested in wildlife, but a bit intimidated by the depth of everyone's knowledge to be honest. I like to watch the pretty birdies, but I don't know what species any of them are! So I will probably ask a lot of dumb questions.
My main interest is cats, but we don't have any interesting cat species living wild in the UK, so it's not a hobby I can indulge very easily.
I hope to work in conservation one day, but with a long-term illness to contend with, this is looking increasingly unlikely. I hope that at least I will eventually be able to complete a degree in Zoology. |

Of course there is a native wild cat - but trying to see it is more of an obsession than a hobby!
Good luck with the degree.

I've always loved nature and I,m also new here. I do a lot of research about nature though so I was quite prepared. You'll learn quickly and i n only 2 days I began to fit in. You don't need to include the latin names just try and answer the questions. Also you can also ask any questions you like. At least I don't mind. I started off like you just completely blown away but I've settled in now fine. Good luck and welcome. Good luck with the degree. Zoology is a great subject I love it and it also opens doors like Palaeontology. Even if you don't answer any questions just read them and soon you'll settle in.

| | | Re: Hello! Thank you for such a warm welcome.
Of course we do have a very special cat living wild in the UK (albeit not technically a species in its own right). What I really meant is that my main interest is sadly not in animals that can be seen wild in Britain. My favourite cat is the cheetah.
I'm hoping to diversify my interests into things I can enjoy close to home.
I started putting out bird food in my garden last winter, and it was lovely to see the pretty birds coming to enjoy the food. And also the little mice who came and ate the husks the birds dropped on the patio. Quite cute little creatures, they were. The birds lost interest over the summer, so I am saving my bird seed until the weather starts to cool again. |
