Hi, thanks for the info. I know Elvaston Castle and the Derwent very well. I am sure that you would be disgusted to know that there is a current attempt to turn the castle into a golf course and the Derwent has been extensively built on to provide industrial units and new roads. I went to Clumber quite a few years ago but I will visit again. Thanks.

OMG I used to go to the riding school at the castle the hacks were great.
I am not surprised they want to turn it into a golf course lol
I saw the road works they were planning this when I was there all those years ago.
I live in Towcester now a small quiet place but they are planning 4000 houses here lol
You cant get away from development and habitat loss.

yes, unfortunately it seems to be the same story everywhere. They built a road near the castle about 6 years ago but have just built a lot more, it really has ruined the area. There is outcry about turning the castle into a golf course because of the habitat but also it is public property as bequeathed by the owners years ago so people are questioning the right of the council to let it be developed privately.

I remember when you could walk round the house..
They should not sell it privately.
I think I signed a petition a while back someone posted a link I didn't know it was still going on.

unfortunately they did, the annoying thing is they haven't really done anything with it since- I have some good memories of the place.......and some appalling ones too!
