| | How do I attract crows to my garden? I miss the sound and antics of crows around here . Is there anything I can do to encourage them or is it not advisable as it could affect the other birds that already come into the garden? |

We have several large nests of crows in the woodland at my workplace and families of jackdaw which roost in the Georgian chimney pots. You can set your watch by them when they go out to feed and come home again just before dusk. Apparently when they come home, they have not all been to feed at the same place but will tell each other about their day and where they have been and how the 'pickings' have been, which is why they make such a racket on arriving home!
I have also heard that a crow's beak is often septic (don't know whether this is true - perhaps other WAB's could confirm) and so if they land on a live animal (ie sheep) perhaps to eat maggots, the 'host' then develops blood poisoning and dies???
An ex-neighbour used to keep a crow as a pet and it was very intelligent - it could tell the difference between a 'good' human and 'bad' human (ie those who would harm/not harm it) but was absolutely devoted to my neighbour. |

| | | Re: How do I attract crows to my garden? I did hear they love Kentucky Fried Chicken. I wouldn't be seen dead feeding them that, mind. It can't be good for their health. But I'm sure they love some nice healthy boiled chicken (don't leave it out over night if you are worried about a rat problem).

If you really do still want them, they will come down for lumps of almost any food, they seem to be attracted by eggs as well..ie chicken or duck eggs. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
