| | | Hello all! Hi everyone.
I'm a new member and I live in Saddleworth I know there are already other members from the area so a special hello to them. I have been reading and enjoying the posts here for a while and decided to join.
Saddleworth has plenty of wildlife as you probably already know, in the last few days I've seen pheasant, hares, rabbits, kestrels, herons cormorant and Goosander plus a variety of garden birds.
I have a small garden pond near the house that has lots of frogs and frog spawn, a few small golden orf and common tench but no toads or toadspawn as yet. We tend to be a few weeks behind most places here.
Also many years ago my father and me got the chance to buy a small local stillwater which is part of a listed site of special interest. It has a good population of british white clawed crayfish, sadly the signal crays are only a few miles downstream though. Other fish species in the water are brown trout, roach, perch and carp.

You must be lucky to live near the Pennine Hills, I was planning a week long section on the Pennine Way between Standedge and Middleton in Teesdale, but sadly it's been dropped in favour of me doing the Cleveland Way and Coast to Coast. Maybe in the next couple of years, I will get to do the whole of Pennine Way. Yes, the Pennines Moors as some sort of magic to it.
Talking of Frogs, I came across some near where I live, about a dozen or more on a cycle path around mid-night. |
