What was it???

Hi, New member here.
I am truly puzzled and upset by what I found in the middle of my snow covered rd tonight.

Caught in my head light was what looked like a young pigeon but as I got closer he turned to face me showing me the longest orange beak ! he flew a short distance with short stubby wings.

I tried to gently approach him as he looked so cold but he just flew over my neighbours fence and into a field.

I have tried to look up pictures and found an oyster catcher which looks as close as I can possibly find.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated - from a concerned, upset bird lover in Coulsdon, Surrey !

Hi Chovie ,Welcome to WAB.Another possible I.D for your unknown bird might be a Water Rail,have you looked at a picture of one of those yet?
I've known of few that have turned up in parks and gardens,exhausted,and there may well be some cold weather movement with them at the moment.
