| | | Hi There ! I'm from Turkey, Istanbul. As you can guess from my nickname, I'm crazy about wild mushrooms. I spend most of my free time wandering in the woods around the city, mostly taking photos of mushrooms and if I can find any, foraging edible kinds.
I've been interested in wild mushrooms for about four years now and I've learned quite a lot about them. However, I know that there's a lot more to learn. I have become a member of WAB in hope that I'll make some progress in the field.
I've got hundreds of mushroom photos that I took during my hunting trips in different parts of the country.
I'm sure I'll have a good time sharing my findings and experiences with other members.
All the best. |

My sister lives in France and picked mushrooms and took them to a pharmacy where they confirmed they were ceps. If only we could have that facility here.
Best wishes. |

Hunting wild mushrooms here in Turkey has only recently become popular. Local people have been doing it pretty long time but many people are afraid of tasting them, fortunately! Some are even afraid of touching them. No kidding ! We don't have many people who are expert on wild mushrooms and if I took them to a pharmacist for advice, they'd most probably advise me to throw them away!
Here are some of the mushrooms I've eaten so far.
Agaricus campestris
Amanita caesar (The Emperor's)
Boletus edulis
Suillus piperatus
Lepista nuda (Blewit)
Coprinus comatus (Shaggy mane)
Chantarelle cibarus
Morchella conica (Morel)
Chantarelle lutescens (abundant nowadays)
Chantarelle tubaeformis
Lactarius salmonicolor
Lactarius pyrogalus
Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster)
Fistulina hepatica (We call it "beefsteak")
Agaricus augustus
Agaricus fuscofibrillosus
Ramaria (don't remember which kind-the orange coloured))
Armillaria mellea (Honey)
Macrolepiota procera (parasol)
Lactarius volemus
Hydnum repandum
Another Hydnum which looks very much like repandum
Boletus luetus
Craterellus cornucopioides (Black Trumpet)
Boletus elegans
Once I ate two big Agaricus xantodermus, which resulted in strong upset in the stomach !
My friends tease me saying that I'll pass away because of a poisonous mushroom!
If only they knew how cautious I am.
Well, I'm learning. |

Your warm welcomes ensure me that I really will enjoy myself here.
Treecreeper, I was in the woods with three friends this afternoon and I couldn't believe my eyes! Still so many kinds of mushrooms! I even found an old Amanita caesar! Black trumpets, Craterellus lutescens, Craterellus tubaeformis and Hydnum repandum were abundant. And I found five Blewits, one of which is the the biggest I've ever found. So are some of the Black Trumpets.
Next thing I'm going to do is try to find some mushroom recipes.
I think I'll start with mushroom soup. Yum! |
