Hello from a pest controller

Hi I have just discovered this forum and after reading a few threads I just had to join. I run a pest control company in Leeds, Yorkshire. I understand this might upset some of you but please give me a chance. Pest control is not all kill, kill, kill, well not if its done correctly, I cant speak for all those in the industry but the safety of non targets is always a priority. You might think I get a thrill from killing for example a rat, I can assure you I don't. I do enjoy preventing damage disease and helping people out …. oh and getting payed for doing it. I have been reading a few of the threads regarding rats and can honestly say I have never read so much nonsense. One post claimed rat poison is only poisonous to rats “its not”. If I can be of any help regarding control of pests and how to prevent killing something by mistake please drop me a pm.

Dave

Re: Hello from a pest controller

Nice to meet you . Well I think I would prefer dont have any job than being a pest controller , but I am realist and I know that rats (quite intelligents) can produce too much damage if nothing is done.

Do you have a terrier dog with you or do you use only poison? One of things I dont know is why in domestic cases (that is, if you are at home and 1 or 2 mice arrived) why do people use poisson instead of a traditional trap? If I had to kill them I think I will use this one that poison. One is the suffering of the animal and 2, other animals are affected. Several cats of mine died of poisson when catching mice.

Re: Hello from a pest controller

Hi Dave,

Welcome to WAB

Please don't refrain from posting, because as you say, there are always people asking for help over an invasion of something or another, and to hear a professional's point of view would be interesting. After all, you must have seen and heard ot all before There may well be debates over the best way to tackle such problems, but it is interesting to hear all povs

Oh, and enjoy the rest of the forums!

D.

Re: Hello from a pest controller

Welcome Dave,

I'm the fence-sitter

I love all rodents and never have a problem with them. But when they have to be controlled, I'd rather they were dealt with by a professional like you, who can give them a more humane death, than by some amateur who doesn't know what he's doing.

I'm fairly new here too. This is a great learning resource. I hope you find as many things to enjoy here as I do

Looking forward to learning more.

Andestine

Re: Hello from a pest controller

Hi and welcome to WAB..
My local council told me the rat poison they left out in the open would only kill rats...
I didn't believe a word of it I refuse to use poison in my garden I got a trap and that was the end of the rat..
Touch wood I have not seen another but that dont mean they are not there..
Out of sight out of mind and I'm not worrying about them.
