| | | another newbie Hi everyone,
I have always been interested in wild flowers, and to some extent birds and butterflies, and I have just found this site so I thought I would join up. Over the past two summers I have been able to start walking, mainly in the Peak District, and I have been thrilled to discover the rich variety of wild flowers. This year I loved finding Moschatel, Autumn Gentians and Grass of Parnassus, - all new to me as I didn't grow up in this area - as well as loads of orchids, which are probably my favourites. I look forward to sharing my 'finds' with you all.

| | | Re: another newbie Hi Lilyrose. Welcome to WAB!
I'm in Derbyshire too...Bakewell to be precise As treecreeper says, Jacobs Ladder is one to look out for. I see it every year in the Western end of Lathkill Dale.
Many of the Derbyshire Dales are known for their Orchids too!
I'm a keen walker myself and love spotting things along the way, so if you fancy meeting up anytime for a 'wild flower wander', please let me know!
Best wishes,
Tracey

| | | Re: another newbie Hi everyone,
Many thanks for such a warm welcome. Tracey, unfortunately I don't drive and rely on my partner to take me out walking, otherwise I would have loved to have a 'flower' pal. I went to Lathkill Dale this year, just as the orchids were coming out and saw some water voles, they are so sweet. I didn't get a chance to go back to see the Jacobs Ladder (I do have lots of it in the garden, although I don't think it's quite the same) - there just haven't been enough good weather days to get out this summer and I planned my walks by plants I wanted to find, not places I wanted to walk. I visited Cressbrook Dale three times in May and again in June and July (I think Tansley Dale/ Cressbrook Dale from Litton and back round is my favourite walk so far) so I saw lots of orchids from the early purples (a wonderful sight and very good photos Tracey) to the fragrant and pyramidal. I also found the Moschatel there and was pleased with that find as it is so small and had nearly finished. I hope to post some of my photos, when I've worked out how. It's just a shame I only discovered this site when the flower finding season is kind of over until next year, when my I shall be after the Toothwort as my first 'find'.
Look forward to chatting with you again.
Best Wishes,
Lilyrose |

| | | Re: another newbie Lovely photo's Lilyrose :-)
I photographed this Toothwort in Monsal Dale in April this year. I had no idea what it was until I had it ID'd on here! Just a shame I didn't go back and catch it fully in flower
