| | | Help the Aged - that is me!! I have been trying desperately to uplaod images from my wifes flickr site in the hope of identification of subjects.
I have failed miserably but with the extreme patience of a WAB member mountainashe I have been urged to try again.
Here goes. This is a link to my flickr page.
Hope to hear from someone, anyone please.

| | | Re: Help the Aged - that is me!! Hi Brian, and welcome to WAB.
The info you need in order to correctly upload photos to WAB can be found here: - http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...otos-info.html If you read this thread and follow the necessary steps carefully, uploading photos is not that difficult.
The link you have attached to your other post is a direct link to Flikr Homepage (and as such could be seen as an advert ) It will very likely be removed by a Moderator.
WAB has a rule which does not allow the posting of external images, or linking to external image hosting sites, and all such attempts are removed when spotted by the Mods. (The rule is quite sensible, in that it prevents photos appearing on WAB which might be subject to lengthy forum discussion, and which, if external in origin, could be subsequently removed, outside of WAB's control, leaving a nonsensical series of posts). See this for info: - Why Can't I Post External Images in the Forum? | Wild About Britain
Read the "how to upload photos thread", and, if you agree with WAB's terms & conditions, post your images for identification to the "Image Library".
I'm sure people on here will be able to help with your identifications.
Good luck
Regards
Mike.

| | | Re: Help the Aged - that is me!! Thanks Mike,
That is most helpful but I fell at my first attempt at uploading as the image was too big .
I have been so used to creating Medium Sizes for the flickr site that uploaded so quickly that I assumed that the same sized images would work for WAB Obviously they did not so I will have to go back and try and resize the images to the sizes you suggest ie 1250 pixels longest side and 300resolution.
Will not be beaten by it although I got into a real muddle after Browsing and putting in two images which required individaul descriptions.
I tried to add these in the one 'meassge' box below but somehow I think that may be incorrect.
Appreciate your offers of assistance.

If you resize as you mention, and upload an image to the Image Library, you don't need to add any information whatsoever (unlike the Gallery) if you don't want to. You can simply upload just the image alone.
PS: info on how to get your image, once uploaded, from either Image Library or Gallery, into your subsequent posts, is mentioned towards the end of the How To Upload Photos thread.
Regards
Mike.

| | | Re: Help the Aged - that is me!! Just to clarify If your images are insects: -
Upload a photo (or photos) to Image Library.
Start a new thread on the Insect forum.
Copy your photo(s) into your new thread's original post, along with whatever text you need with regards to asking for identifications.
If your pics. are of widely varying subjects, it might possibly be better to create separate threads in the relevant forum subsections.
Regards,
Mike.

Especial thanks to Mike Lancashire Lad.
May I explain that my wife is the photographer and I am but her 'assistant' for if you can believe it, she is even worse with computers than myself!!

Welcome from me too. I am watching with interest as I have uploaded so many pics to various sites recently (for the first time) that I am now feeling slightly brain-dead when it comes to tackling yet another format here! Hopefully this will stay as a link for me then I can "crib" from the info you have been given. Good luck. |

Forgive me if you were going to do this later on, but I have just found your photos in the Image Library. You really need to creat a post in the insects & invertabrates forum, and copy the photos into that post in order to stand any real chance of getting identifications.
(I note that you have asked the questions in the message box under each photo, but if you don't create a separate thead, and copy your pics into that thread, you are gambling on whether anyone happens to chance upon your pics in the library. However, if you do create a thread on the insect forum, you are guaranteed to get many people looking at your pics).
If you are unsure of what I'm trying to explain, just yell We will turn you into a fully fledged Wabber in no time.
Best regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: Help the Aged - that is me!! Mike I would love to become a good WABBER assuming that at my age it is still legal and possible.
You will need to give very very simple guidance which I will then print off and try and follow.
You are right in that I have had no response to my uploads but dare I say I have ventured an inexpert opinion on a fly that was posted after my postings.
Many thanks for any hel you can give.

Brian. | No problem Brian. (Things are only easy if you know how to do them ).
Right - here's what you need to do: -
1 - From WAB's main Forums index page, click onto the Insect & Invertebrates Forum.
2 - Start a new thread by clicking on the light blue "New Thread" tab, which is located at the bottom of the listings.
3 - At this point, a small window will open, and you can type in a title (for example Insect Identification Help Please), along with any text you want to write in the main message box.
4 - At the right of the message box, you will see a light blue link which says "Image Library", you click on this link, and another little window will open, showing thumnail pics of your uploaded photos. (Only your photos will be displayed here).
5 - For each image you want to insert into your new thread, just click on the thumbnail picture, and you will see that the code for that picture is immediately transferred into your new message.
6 - Once you have the image codes in your message, you can position your curser adjacent or between or wherever you want, in order to write some info or ask questions about each pic.
7 - Once you are satisfied with your message just click on the "Preview Post" tab, located below the message box, and you will be able to see what your post looks like before you actually submit it.
8 - If you need to make any changes, just go back into the message box and retype as required. (and then click preview post again if you so wish).
9 - When you are happy with what you see, just click on "Submit New Thread" tab, again below the message box, and your message including photos will be uploaded onto the forum.
You can then return to the forum whenever you want, and check on any responses to your questions.
Give it a go and see how you get on.
Regards,
Mike.

I have tried to follow your steps for adding 'threads' and I am now ready for a report but be gentle.
How am I doing before I add 'threads' to the other two images please?
It would appear that you have helped another person so it is a case of 'bread on the water'

ellen | I'm impressed by offers of help all of which have indeed helped.
I am awaiting a report on how I am doing before I get any deeper in posting images for identifiacation.
Thank you,

Brian. | Not sure that I'm following the gist of your question Brian. But you seem to be doing just fine to me
I'm just a member and have no say in who can and who cannot do things on WAB, but you are obviously on the ball with everything except your little bit of a problem on getting photos into your threads.
Just go for it my friend - No one will think any the worse if you mess it up, and there are plenty of folk on here who will gently steer you back on track if you do.
Regards
Mike. EDIT - Ooops!, It's me who's not on the ball . I've just visited the insect forum, and can see that you have already posted several threads with your pics included. - What can I say, Good job-well done problem sorted. No doubt the replies will now start flooding in

| | | Re: Help the Aged - that is me!! Hi MIke,
I still plugging on determined to get the hang of this WAB site and what appears to me to be the numerous hurdles I have to jump through to obtain the results I am seeking. I am sure it will all sort itself out in the end. I am spurred on by the comment at the end of your message re Common Sense!!!
Meanwhile I have a few queries:-
1 I actually ventured to offer an opinion on identity (it was what I called a flesh fly) but I cannot see that my suggestion was shown as a link to the thread.
2) How can I see the images I have posted as they obviously slip lower down the images to be viewed.
3) How do I get to view the helpful comments which I hope people will make in assisting with identity. I have somehow managed to respond to a comment but cannot recrreate that situation. Old age is fun!!!
Thanks as always,
