| | Strange in Staffordshire Totally bewildered, a black insect, as big as a bee with brilliant red wings, hundreds of them hovering around long grass. Never seen them before and yet this is where l walk my dog on a regular basis |

I too think they could be burnet moths as thats the same reaction I had when I first saw them!There are quite a lot around at the moment!

| | | Re: Strange in Staffordshire Welcome to WAB Mandy, I too think they could be the Burnet moth, an alturnative to this is the Cinnabar moth which is also black and red, check out the moth Gallery and see if you can't ID it from the pictures on there, have fun. |
