Thanks for the welcome, its reasurring to know that you think I have made a good choice on the fz28. I have spent hours looking at reviews of different cameras. I nearly went for the panasonic G1, but was advised by many people that as I was starting off the fz28 would be easier, and cheaper, and I don't have to carry extra lenses with me. Still maybe one day I will be good enough for a camera like that. By the way, I am really enjoying looking at everyones pictures, it is really inspiring me. |

You should be able to get some nice shots using the fully automatic setting on your FZ28. But for bird photos I was advised to use the A setting (Aperture priority) with a large aperture (e.g. f 4) - this gives a high shutter speed and small 'depth of field', so just the bird is in focus. I don't know if I should, but I tend to use the same settings for insects and wildflowers too!
The people on the WAB photography forums are very helpful, so don't be worried about asking beginner's questions there.

Hi maxydog and welcome. For two or three years I got some excellent results using a mid range compact, it would give you time to be sure what you wanted, and the Praktica 6 mega pixel (cant remember the model but it will have changed but now,) had a superb lens and the macro gave constant, good results. Worth thinking about and a much lower price then even a cheep DSLR. |

Hi Debbie and welcome to WAB, I think you've made the right choice with the Panasonic, it will give you excellent images with no lens changes, and who knows in the future when your hooked on this photography lark like the rest of us you can always upgrade.
