| | | Hello I'm not quite new.. .. but I forgot to announce my newness here when I was new! So I'll just say thanks to all those people who have already helped me out with identifying things and thanks also for the interest provided by other people's discoveries.
I live on the Isle of Wight between chalk downland and a sandy/ rocky coast, but most things I see daily are just sprouting from cracks in the built environment when walking my kids to and from school.
I ramble all over the IoW, cycle a lot and travel by bus when I can afford it (fares on the IoW are steep compared to the mainland).
Nice to meet you,
Rob |

I've seen some of your posts already, so this is a rather belated welcome to WAB! |

A fellow lover of the IoW here, visit the island at least once every year .
Agree about the bus prices, they seem to have gone up by 25% this year
Blackgang Chine was still there when I last looked, OK it's an amusement park but actually quite interesting if you go when it's not too crowded.
Spent my college years in Portsmouth and used to go across to the island with my fossil hunting friend, great memories |

Thanks for the welcomes Hedge, Ciderpuss (I wondered who I'd seen waving from Pompey), treecreeper (I hope Blackgang's still there - my kids are expecting to visit on Saturday!), Pete, Pippa, ellen, Kayleigh and Robin P (in my view the best one day - ie 24hr - bus deal is a £10 rover and make sure you use it a lot. My recommendation is catch the x-40 coaster from Ryde and it takes you all the way round the south coast to Alum Bay)

Blackgang's still there? wow I remember going when I was about 6, I should introduce my OH to the delights of the IOW (BG included) as he is from Birmingham and has a lot to learn |

| | | Re: Hello I'm not quite new.. Thanks Ron, WelshLensman (in Dylan Thomas territory, I see), Sunnydale and Deer Stalker. I'm still finding my way around this place and finding it a great help and interest.
Ciderpuss, I reckon your return to Blackgang with OH must be overdue if you haven't been there since age 6.
My first visit was when I was 48, and it's great!
