| | Hello all Hello all, I'm new and would like to ask if anyone can help to identify my lovely shrub. It produces clusters of black berries in autumn about the size of blackcurrants that the birds love to eat. |

I think you are right tree creeper, just checked it out on internet. The only difference being that the height is approx 2 meters at the moment, after pruning 2 weeks ago, the spread is 1 1/2 metres, again I cut it back 2 weeks ago. Is this normal?
Also are the berries poisonous to dogs, as we've got a 5 month old border collie who loves to taste everything. The berries usually arrive in September/October. |

There are plenty of dog owners on WAB so maybe one of those will know if dogs can tolerate the berries (except aren't dogs carnivores??) |

| | | Re: Hello all Hi Caz,
Welcome to WAB. I can't say for sure, but having read up in a book on trees and shrubs there is nothing to say the berries are poisonous whilst other fruits like that of Taxus (Yew) does state that their berries are poisonous! It's quite a popular garden plant around my area, sure it wouldn't be so if that was the case?!? |
