| | | Hello Everyone Hi, I'm new to this. I found this site while I was trying to find out what birds like thistle seeds as I bought some last year but they remained untouched. Whilst researching this i found that most birds prefer specific seeds and not a general mix. I witnessed this with a blue tit scattering the seeds all over the ground until he got one that he liked. After watching this I have bought Finch seeds and now have feeders with mixed seed, finch seed, peanuts and thistle seeds as well as fat balls. Since this change I now have a pair of gold finches coming to my garden on a regular basis. I have had a visit from a green finch. I also have regular visits from bullfinches, robins, and many others including our resident blackbirds. |

Goldfinches are supposed to love thistle seeds but I stopped putting them out as they remained untouched, but they do like the sunflower hearts as all the birds in my garden do.. |

| | | Re: Hello Everyone Hi and a warm welcome to WAB. As Kayleigh says, Goldfinches love thistle seeds as do Siskins. I know what you mean about Tits, we have one who scatters seed everywhere until he finds a Sunflower seed. The Dunnocks and Robins mop up the spillage though.

| | | Re: Hello Everyone Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have been watching a new family of blue tits today and have realised (as I haven't witnessed it before) that I witnessed the babies fledge last week. It was amazing to watch as they fell from the conifers. |
