| | | Flying Bug!! Hi ~ I haven't been on this site before but would like some help. I have checked the Gallery and cannot find anything like the flying bugs that descended on us last night.
I notice that you cannot attach photos on this site so can anyone suggest where I can forward a photograph for Identification purposes?
We had about 6-8 of these bugs descend on us last night while having a bar-b-que and have never seen the like of them before and the size was quite horrible.
The body was larger and longer than a 20p piece with a large wingspan. The wings when folded sat separately like outstretched legs at the back and seemed to be covered by a shiny brown coat with around 5 vertical lines running down the length. The top of the round body seemed to be translucent but black underneath with white fluffy bits around the outside. The front 'feelers' seemed to be fan-shaped.
My daughter says this is about the 3rd time this has happened in about the last month although she has not seen as many as this before at one time.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Many Thanks. |

Was your bug anything like this?
(by glsammy).
To upload photos to the site, click on " Gallery" at the top of the page, then click on "Upload Photos", top right-ish, and follow the instructions.
Hope this helps

| | | Re: Flying Bug!! Yes - I believe it's a Cockchafer as said. Maybe newly-hatched, possibly damaged. Send some my way, won't you?

| | | Re: Flying Bug!! Thanks Jason but what are they? A flying beetle/moth? and where do they live?
My daughter has recently moved fairly near to a small wood. Would it have been the outside light that attacted them or the heater?
Also, is this their breeding time and will they be around for much longer? |

| | | Re: Flying Bug!! They are beetles... They live in parks, gardens, I should imagine woods... Yes, I imagine the light attracted them - we had a similar post last night of a CC in a bedroom... Yes, they're breeding now... and Yes, they should remain into summer
See you round the boards, if you want to know anything else, just ask

| | | Re: Flying Bug!! Yes, Cockchafer. They have a habit of flying around on warm summer evenings, blundering into lights. Magnificent beasties, completely harmless.
