| | | Re: Hello from StuartDH Hi StuartDH,
Would just like to say I have recently joined the site and find it very useful and informative, as well as very friendly. I work nights and it's nice to browse through WAB during the quiet periods. Nice to know there are lots of people getting together online because of common interests.
I am from New Zealand originally but am now living in beautiful Britain. I love nature and wildlife and there are still lots of creatures I have yet to see. Never seen a badger yet but hope to one day! Am sure I will learn a lot about British wildlife on this lovely site.
P.S. How does one post a picture under their username?
Regards and thanks, Snowhound, Wiltshire

| | | Re: Hello from StuartDH Hi Stuart, Mike here, I'm nearly 50 and have been interested in wildlife all my life, had slowworms and lizards, rooks and loads of other things as a kid. Now I'm an MOD Police Officer, still working with wildlife when ever possible, have been our site's conservation officer for the last 13 yrs. Terrific site, well done. |

| | Re: Hello from StuartDH Hi all,
I just joined 'cause I was given a little field guide called "Food for Free" as a stocking filler for Christmas but it has quickly become my favourite prezzie. I never knew there was so much variety of edible plants and that several of the plants I always thought of as just weeds were actually edible, like Dandilions and Nettles.
The problem I have though is that I don't have enough confidence to identify plants can anyone tell me a good way to get started? Are there any books you would recommend? Courses? Web sites? etc...
I do know enough to realise that some wild flowers and fungi are poisonous and even the edible ones may have been sprayed with herbicide or pesticide and that some poisonous plants look remarkably similar to plants that the field guide says are edible. I also know that some wild plants are protected and that it is illegal to pick them, so I'm not just going to go wondering around my local park picking plants and eating them. I would however be interested in learning more about how to get started.
Many thanks |

Was looking for somewhere to say hello and how friendly everyone is on this forum. It's great to be able to chat about the important things in life with like minded people. I hope to contribute some interesting bits of news from my wild life haven down here in Cornwall. |
