| | | Speckler Hi,
I am Speckler. I have a little bit of woodland in East Sussex. I work hard to figure how to manage it and I find this forum helps me a lot by aiding me in identifying species. Once I have a name for something I can research it.
I am totally in love with my wood and plan to manage it for the benefit of wild life, flora and fungi. That is not as easy as you may think. I don't really have much experience in these matters and a lot of thought is required.
I don't have much going for me, I have the assistance of a lifeboat man, he was the Parish tree warden but he got sacked. So if you are local then I would be very grateful for your help. You could PM me or leave a message.
A lot of the help that I would require would be just observing species, I am very interested in bats, butterflies and moths. You could dig a pond and I will be cutting down trees, just not yet. "Measure twice cut once".
Expert advice is invaluable.
The Speckled wood is in no way exclusive, all sorts of Parish councillors walk their dogs there.
The blog is at The Speckled Wood and you should visit before you offer to get involved.
One single offer of help would make this message worthwhile, well, if you were any good.

All the best with this exciting project. I just wish there were more people like you.

| | | Re: Speckler Hi Colin really interested in your project. I use to live in East Sussex at Hastings and still visit my sons there. We did a lot of walking of the area and I wondered were your wood is. Good luck with an interesting project. Sylv

| | | Re: Speckler Hi
Thank you all so much for your friendly replies.
I can't publish the exact location of the wood because it upsets the Herps, because of the adders. Also may put badgers at risk.
You can email me at thespeckledwood@googlemail.com and so long as you are not on the "badger baiting" list or a convicted "adder molester" then I would love to arrange to show you around or just give you directions.
I know this is a real nice site but if a bad fella was looking for something, he might look here. Anyway the Herps are really sensitive and I need their help and also I love my snakes.
And my boars and my flowers and my dung beetles.
Anyway it is not as easy as you might think or exactly living the dream, it is more of a challenge. Please do email me if you are inclined, I have a lot of hard work to do and firmly believe that two heads are better than one and also four eyes are better than two.
I have got four eyes, have got two heads as well (and some) but you wouldn't believe what is lacking.
Thanks for being so nice
