As for the Starlings, my advice would be - learn to love them! I have had them dominating the feeders I put out almost to the exclusion of everything else (although to be fair, not a lot else comes around the back of my house due to the critical mass of cats we have around and about). I have spent a lot of time wathcing their squabbles and their attempts to out smart my attempts to outsmart them on the feeders, and I have to say, all in all, I think that Starlings are just about my favourite UK bird. They are so smart and clever and attractive, great mimics, great characters. And best of all, if you do learn to love them, they are all over the place, so joy to behold wherever you may be at any time.
That's probably not the advice you were looking for, but in following it, you instantly cut out a source of stress, and replace it with pleasure.
Cheers
Sven

We stopped feeding the Starlings for a while over the Summer (they were like gannets and I was sure they could find wild food). But they never came back And guess what? Now I miss them
So there are some suet cakes waiting for them in a "safe" feeder should they ever come our way again.
