| | A big 'Hello' from Derbyshire! Hi all, I'm based in Bakewell, Derbyshire - within the Peak District National Park. It's a beautiful area, perfect for getting out there on foot and exploring the nature/wildlife etc it has to offer......which I do on a regular basis!
Anyone else live nearby?
Great site and I'm looking forward to contributing to the Forums.
Thanks for reading! |

| | | Re: A big 'Hello' from Derbyshire! Hello and welcome Sunnydale, My Mum lives in Bakewell, and my brother in Youlgreave. It's a wonderful part of the world even though it is so touristy. Lots of great walks agreed, but I'm unsure of good wildlife sites.
Enjoy WAB and all it has to offer.

During walks in Monsal Dale, I've sat and watched Weasels scurrying in and out of a burrow on the bank side, a Stoat, Rabbits, a Fox on the open hillside.....and on the river there can be any/some of the following..... Mute Swans, Grey Heron, Dippers, Kingfisher, Grey Wagtails, Coots, Moorhens, Mandarin Ducks, Mallards, Little Grebes, Goosanders, Tufted Ducks.....and Water Voles!
In the trees at various times of the year, I've seen lots of different species of birds including Redstarts, Gold Crests, Black Caps, Treecreepers, Nuthatches (watched them feeding fledglings this Spring, out on the open branches above me), Chiffchaffs, Bullfinches, Green Woodys, GS Woodys, Pied Flycatchers, Chaffinches, Goldfinches, Long Tailed Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Coal Tits, Willow Tits, Wrens, Kestrels and Buzzards flying high above the Dale.......
How much wildlife do you want?
P.S....Thank you all for your welcomes!

welcome to WAB from me too. I'm not far away , just the other side of Owler Bar.
Have you been to see the Short Eared Owls on Leash Fen ? They're giving good views.
