| | | Lichen query Hi All,
Does anyone know of a good online guide to common (british) lichen species? I'm hoping to bring a group exploring churchyards and I know very little about them.
Thanks |

Can't help with an on-line guide unfortunately, but there is a Collins Guide (Book) "Ferns Mosses & Lichens of Britain, Northern & Central Europe" by Hans Martin Jahns, which might be of some use.
The book includes over 750 species, with 655 colour photos.
ISBN 0 00 219254 3, Hardback, size about 15cm x 10cm x 2cm thick, so easily pocketable.
Book contains (approx): - Ferns 100+, Mosses & Liverworts 275+, Lichens 300+
Regards
Mike. |

Thanks | Hi Billy,
Someone on here recently posted about the field guides available from: FSC Publications - Laminated foldout charts for identification
Sorry, I cannot remember who it was, but thanks
Among several others *cough* I have ear-marked the one called "Churchyard Lichens" for myself. This may or may not be useful to you, as they are not on-line guides, nor (I would imagine) extensive, but I thought it was worth mentioning....
D.
P.S. And welcome to WAB!

| | | Re: Lichen query Hi Billy and welcome. I have said book that Lancashire Lad mentioned and would strongly recommend you look for a copy. There are keys ( a bit daunting) photographs and habitat preferences for the species covered.
I did a quick search and one site has a section on projects, churchyards are covered, no photographs but some interesting facts and a chance to help with a recording scheme.
Hope this is of some help.
