| | Anyone know a good Wildlife book or DVD? Hi all
I am mad about wildlife and animals and am looking for a series of books on all the animals in the animal kingdom. Some video would be great too.
Anyone know of anything? |

| | | Re: Anyone know a good Wildlife book or DVD? Hi .. and welcome to WAB Forums ..
I'd recommend any of the excellent David Attenborough "Life" series .. I have the Life of Birds on DVD & VHS Cassette ..
Just Google "David Attenborough" .. or go to the BBC website & look in the Natural History section for a full list ..
I'm sure others will be along shortly with their favourites too ..
Bye for now ..
Kev ..

A warm welcome to WAB. I'm sure you'll find lots of interest here.
One of my favourite books on British wildlife is: -
"Fauna Britannica" by Stefan Buczacki. (Hamlyn - ISBN 0 600 59867 5).
The book is larger than A4 size, hardback, about 40mm thick, and has over 500 pages.
Another favourite is: -
"The Natural History of the British Isles", by Mike & Peggy Briggs. (Parragon - ISBN 1-40545-685-X). This book is also larger than A4 size, hardback, about 30mm thick, with nearly 400 pages.
Both books are crammed full of superb photographs and detailed articles.
A more locally specialised book, and a great favourite of mine is: -
"Wildlife of Lancashire".
Published by Carnegie Publishing Ltd. for The Lancashire Wildlife Trust.
(ISBN 1-85936-118-8).
That book is just less than A4 size, hardback, about 25mm thick, with 340 pages. I don't think that you'd find a better book of its kind available. Again full of brilliant photographs & articles. (Includes Sea Life, Lower Plants, Wildflowers, Fungi, Ferns, Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Freshwater Life, Invertebrates. etc. etc.).
Best regards
Mike.

| | | Re: Anyone know a good Wildlife book or DVD? There's one thing that's massively under-rated these days mate and that's your local library.. there is an infinity supply of books on just about every aspect of wildlife. Plus you can just pick up and read at your lesiure without having to open the laptop up or be in the house.. |

| | | Re: Anyone know a good Wildlife book or DVD? Hi there
Yes I guess you are right - the old fashioned version of going to the library is an underated thing...I do go frequently though as I just love the smell of library books, strange I know
Found a really great series though - with DVD's and books, great graphics and info and amazing detail, covers almost every aspect of wildlife...so happy about that!
Thanks for all your help and welcomes! |

| | | Re: Anyone know a good Wildlife book or DVD? Hi! If you like bird watching, Bill Oddie's books on the subject are imformative and hilarious He's also written 'How to watch wildlife' which is good if you are a beginner. Be warned--- Bill Oddie is a bit like marmite, you either love him or hate him! |

| | | Re: Anyone know a good Wildlife book or DVD? Well I just bought the first and second edition of Ultimate Wildlife - which is available online via Simply HE. It's pretty good - you get the book and DVD, and my daughter loves it. You even get to adopt an animal when you subscribe and we have now adopted a giraffe called Kakuda The Ultimate Wildlife website, also has free video and a blog which is kinda cool...
Collins Complete Guide to British Wildlife: A Photographic Guide to Every Common Species, is also pretty good, oh and I also Collins British Wildlife...and Wildlife of the British Isles, which you can get on Amazon me thinks...
Ciao
