| | Hello from the Isle of Wight Hi, I came across this site quite by accident while browsing during lunch at work yesterday. Joining another forum is not really something I needed to do right now(!) but this looks too good to resist.
I am 38 years old and am primarily a birder and amateur astronomer with an interest in bird photography and art. However, as I really should actually look at stuff other than birds and deep sky objects, this forum will be helpful - I am hopeless on plants and insects, for example. I find astronomy and birding - nature in general, in fact, is an excellent way to get away from the stresses of modern living.
Cheers

Sylv | Hi Sylv, there are a lot of good place for these on the IW but the best is Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve near Sandown where there is a hide and feeders. The Reds are very 'tame' and you will get excellent views of them there. Also Parkhurst Forest just outside Newport, Brighstone Forest and Firestone Copse (near Ryde) are good as well.
There's also Newtown Nature Reserve, Hersey NR and Brading Marsh as well. |

| | | Re: Hello from the Isle of Wight Went to the Isle of Wight last year for the first time and had a lovely time, spent hours in Parkhurst forest looking for a Red but had no luck.
On a side note Gypsy, if you fancy going out for a bite to eat you could do a lot worse than going to the Crab and Lobster in Bembridge!
Hello BTW! |

I live at Alverstone. My mum lives at Wootton, though, at Palmers Road and I spent three of my teenage years there. |
