| | | G'day! Hello there. I'm David, a 48 year old psychiatric nurse from Nelson in North East Lancashire. Not really a place where you might expect to find nature red in tooth and claw, but it's (East Lancashire that is) improving, if you discount the incredible and completely insane amount of bl@@dy litter and over the d@mn place. The sooner this country imposes ferociously swingeing taxes on useless packaging the better. But I digress...
I find fungi fascinating, think trees are terrific and wildflowers are wonderful. I've always been interested in the 'old' countryside. I was introduced to it by my grandfather in Buckinghamshire in the 60's. He used to tell me tales of when he worked on the land in the early 1900's, took me round, showed me what was what. Fine man. I'm very keen on digital photography and can't wait to get some images up for you to share. I came across the forum when I was looking on the internet to help me identify a flower, the like of which I had never seen before.... |

| | | Re: G'day! Hi David and welcome to WAB. Your introduction suggests that you share our love of wildlife. There are people on here that will match all your main interests, one being Fungijohn, but he's on his hols at the mo,and as his name indicates, there's nothing the guy doesn't know about fungi. Everyone on here is friendly, inviting, knowledgeable and loves nature.I hope you enjoy the boards and very much look forward to your posts and pics. ww

| | | Re: G'day! Welcome to WAB, I'm sure you will get a warm welcome. What part of Buckinghamshire were you based in? I also had much of my introduction to wildlife in the county.
By the way did you manage to identify your flower?

| | | Re: G'day! Tiggrx, I used to life near Amersham, in a village called Penn Street. Now I live, as I said, in Lancashire. God alone knows how that happened!
The flower, yes I identified it, but it's such an odd tale it's worthy of a post of it's own. Once I have photographic evidence. rlchew 'Varan Komodosky' is an approximate translation of Komodo Dragon - in Russian! I use it all over the internet as a nickname. Fascinating animal. |

| | | Re: G'day! Lady Mary's Walk, I believe it's called, past the Curzon family tombs and on through the lytch gate. I can remember a time when that all functioned as a working woodland, now it's been sadly raped of 300 years of cultivation. I am glad the Woodland Trust have taken over at least the section of the wood that abuts onto the common. I was there last year, a sorry mess the woods have fallen into over the last 10 or so years. Depressing stuff indeed. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
