| | | Hi, new here! :) Hi, I'm new here. I'm from Australia - I hope that's all right, I realise this is a UK site, but I can't seem to find any Australian wildlife forums. Anyway, this seems like a good forum! |

Pity you can't find a similar one in Australia, the wildlife there must be fascinating. |

I should think our wildlife will seem a tad tame when compared to yours!
I suppose if you grow up with poisenous creatures all around you then you know nothing else and just accept that they are there and know how to deal with them. Much as we grow up knowing what will bite/sting by experience here.
Recent years have shown that Global warming is causing creatures that would never exist here have become resident now. My speciality area is moths and by recording for 30 years I have seen species that were rare visitors or unknown have now become resident here.
I look forward to exchanging information with you!

A warm welcome to WAB from up here on the other side of the world.
Just bear in mind that when you log in, most of us will be tucked up asleep and logged off .
There is a strange nocturnal variety of WAB member though and I have been known to log in at 3 a.m. in the past.
Enjoy!

| | | Re: Hi, new here! :) Morning Fairy-Wren -
Just thought I'd add a few words of welcome. Hope you enjoy the site, and finding out more about the wildlife & environment over here. As you can see, everyone's really friendly and willing to share knowledge and experiences, so feel free to ask as many questions as you like.
I have quite a few relatives in New South Wales and Canberra - through them I've heard quite a bit about Australia's unique flora and fauna, but it'd be fascinating to find out more.
Perhaps one day I'll get around to making the trip for myself but, in the meantime, I'll look forward to reading your posts!
All the best,
Derek |

naturegirl, hehe, it seems like aus has quite a reputation for biters and stingers! I've come across Redback spiders and that sort of thing a little bit but have yet to be bitten or stung.
Derek, I hope the opportunity to mention Australian flora and fauna comes up - hopefully it won't be too irrelevant in a UK forum!
Thanks again, everyone! |

| | | Re: Hi, new here! :) There's always the Tree-house! Chat about anything and everything there! There is a bigger cross-over with each continent's wildlife nowadays (maybe we in WAB haven't got to the point of crocs and duck-billed platys yet!) but I see no reason not to chat inter-racially, so to speak.
Look forward to hearing more from you,
D.
