| | | Hello... Hiya Folks,
Have been a member for a while but not really had a great deal to say for myself,
However, I'm looking for a bit of help. Dont know if i have ended up in the right place but no doubt i will be pointed in the right direction.
So ... All of a sudden I have loads of Fungi growing in the lawn, I think i have identified one as brown mottlegill but the other I cant seem to find pictures of the black one in the Gallery.
Can someone tell me what they are and more importantly are they dodgy for the doggy because over the last week he has become poorly to the tune of 70 quid, so I am just covering in my options. |

There are lots of funji experts here but there is a WAB meet this weekend, so don't dispair if it takes while to get a response

| | | Re: Hello... In light of that, I shall have a go. I am no expert - but there are plenty on WAB that are. Your first pics look like Panaeolina foenisecii which has been around quite a bit recently and although described as "not edible", is unlikely to cause too much harm, I believe.
Your other photo is a Coprinus sp. I won't hazard a guess as to which species but none of these is known to be too poisonous, unless taken with alcohol - so unless your dog has a drink problem, it should be safe.
All that said, I would guess that dogs, having evolved as carnivores, probably have more sense than to eat fungi - especially ones they can't readily identify
With a bit of luck someone else from the fungi forum will confirm the above too. |

| | | Re: Hello... Hi Alan and welcome to WAB, sorry I cant help with your Fungi ID's, but I can advice you that not sharing your alcohol with your canine friend could lead to a severe case of the hair of the dog, so you take care.

And as for my southern comfort...... It has to stay in my hand at all times.
