| | | Hi from N.Ireland Just found this group on a Google search. I lived most of my childhood in the countryside but due to work commitments moved away from home and became a townie for the last 20yrs. Now back to the countryside on a 1/2 acre site near the lough and with lots of woodlands etc I am once again surrounded by wildlife. I am working on making the garden as wildlife friendly as possible and trying to instill some sort of interest in the kids who probably won't appreciate it untill they have to leave and move away from home in years to come.
So far I have planted a hawthorne hedge with numerous trees growing in front of it (birch, hawthorne, apple, rowan, maple). I have a 8x4x4 compost heap and a greenhouse and veg plot. This week I added the wildlife pond roughly 11x7x2 and soon hope to add a bog garden. The bird table resembles Heathrow airport at rush hour and there will be numerous other projects in the future. As the garden is only in it's 2nd year ther is a lot of maturing to do but hopefully the pond will add some instant entertainment as there will be no fish and is designed specifically with attracting wildlife in mind. Any ideas for further projects are more than welcome.

A very warm welcome to WAB.
It sounds like you have an exciting project on the go there in Northern Ireland. I can not help you with any further suggestions for your garden as I live in a second floor flat and my garden is .... absent!
However, I am sure that others here will come up with something. They always do!
