| | | Another hello fromLeicestershire Hi
I joined a few years back, made one post I think and then forgot about it and re-discovered this site a few days ago. I live on a mixed family farm near Melton Mowbray where we do lots of wildlife conservation work. We also host visits to give people the chance to learn about farming, the countryside and the wildlife management that we do. We have an SSSI and several Local Wildlife Sites. We are having some FREE guided walks on Sunday June 1st aimed at people interested in wildlife but so far have hardly any bookings so please if you live near us then consider looking us up! I get really disillusioned - we work so hard for our wildlife but many people think that farmland is no good for wildlife and that all farmers do is rip hedges out and spray things. |

A very warm welcome back to WAB from me.
I'm afraid you are suffering as you say with the misconception that farms aren't wildlife friendly whereas you & I know very differently.
Sadly there are still farms that do seem to be hell bent on destroying the habitat our wildlife needs but thankfully wildlife friendly farms seem to be on the increase.
I hope your open days meet with a little more success than they appear to be doing so far.
On a lighter note if you are interested. There is a Dragonfly / Mothing / Birding meet not far from you at Priory Water on 7th / 8th June. It will be an all nighter for those that want to stay for the mothing. Perhaps you could pop down the road and join in.
Here is the thread explaining everything. Priory Water 2008

Good luck with your guided walks, I really hope they get the support that your hard works deserves. I do a lot of walking in the countryside, and I frequently come across evidence of farms like yours where people care about nature.
