| | | Hello from Banffshire After many years in IT, I've taken early retirement and moved to North Aberdeenshire (Banffshire). I'm restoring an early Victorian house set in 1/5 acre with views over the countryside to front and rear. Plenty of wildlife round me, especially buzzards, plus I've seen Red Kite, Lapwings and red squirrels recently. Only a few miles from coast so plenty of wildlife there too - also see dolphins occasionally at Banff.
Picture of my OH standing at bottom of garden shouting 'Mint sauce' at the sheep! |

| | | Re: Hello from Banffshire Thanks for that Tiff - my father was in building and I learned a few basics from him, but I'm learning mostly 'by the seat of my pants'. I'm stuck with a bad back after slating the roof of an outhouse that I built (wih sandstone block and lime mortar) to match the house.
Ron - the photo was taken last year. I've added a polytunnel and Mrs L has cultivated a good vegetable patch. I've also just ordered a 15' x 10' log cabin. The remaining grass is too small for a ride-on mower, but I've invested in a 20" self propelled mower with 'self starter'. |

| | | Re: Hello from Banffshire Correct Duncan. I lived for many years in Hampshire (near Pompey), but it was becoming so busy and crowded that we decided to retire early and return north.
It's much easier to get an older house here with a decent garden, and I wouldn't even mind a bigger one - say 1/2 acre.
Biggest drawback is finding a decent pub with proper beer. Plenty of good bottled beers, but little draught (that's drinkable). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
